The Acer is a 16:9 1080p monitor with an IPS panel, while the Samsung is a 32:9 1440p monitor with a VA panel. We purchase our own monitors and The same pattern of performance between these three modes applied for lower refresh rates as well. The S24AG30 has a different design with a worse swivel range, and it has a USB input, but you can't use it for charging. It has a higher 5120x1440 resolution and 240Hz refresh rate. The Dell Alienware AW3423DW is better all-around than the Samsung Odyssey G9. Despite its low peak brightness, it doesn't have many issues displaying sRGB colors at most shades, and it's also great with the Adobe RGB color volume. Its 27 inch screen is great for gaming, media consumption, and productivity; however, its 1080p resolution may be too low for some. TheDell Alienware AW2521H is better than the Dell Alienware AW2720HF. Remarkable SDR color volume. The accuracy after calibration to the D65 white point is fantastic, and any remaining inaccuracies can't be spotted by the naked eye. The Samsung Odyssey G7 LC32G75T is much better overall than the Samsung Odyssey G5 LC34G55T. The Samsung Odyssey G9 is a great super ultrawide gaming monitor; however, its 240Hz refresh rate is only achievable if you have agraphics card that has Display Stream Compression. We will provide recommendations in a moment. Enabling VRR locks the overdrive setting, and luckily the response time is best with VRR enabled. One or more of these seems to offer an ambient light sensor. The Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 S32BG85 and the Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 S32BG75 are very similar monitors. The Samsung Odyssey G9 is decent for HDR gaming. It also has great peak brightness with the latest firmware update and decent reflection handling. This is provided for reference only and should not be used, as the calibration values vary per individual unit even for the same model due to manufacturing tolerances. The Acer also has a much faster response time, making it a better choice for gaming. Its also why panel manufacturers like AU Optronics are investing in their AmLED backlights, everything is focused around ensuring that response time and VRR performance remains solid when the Mini LED backlight is in use. ICC Profile Download. The resulting greyscale accuracy is poor as well with dE 4.0 measured. The LG 32UD99 is significantly better than the Samsung CJ791 for most people in the majority of uses. We tested the Samsung Odyssey G9 (LC49G95TSSNXZA), and there are no other variants. The remaining inaccuracies shouldn't be visible to the naked eye, and the color temperature is almost right on our 6500K target. While the brightness control is locked when MBR is enabled, it operates at the same brightness setting as you had in normal mode, so you can set the brightness to something suitable before enabling MBR to achieve a desired brightness. Brightness had been adjusted to return a more comfortable and brighter 120 nits, while maintaining the strong VA contrast ratio at 2503:1. The edges of the screen are a bit darker than the rest, but there's no dirty screen effect in the center. The Acer has better ergonomics, and it's better for HDR, as it's brighter and can display a wider color gamut. Odyssey Neo G9. There were some halos starting to appear in visual tests. This isn't ideal if your PC is on the right. The Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 has an optional backlight strobing feature, commonly known as black frame insertion, but sadly it isn't that useful. The Samsung Odyssey G7 LC32G75T is a much better monitor than the Dell Alienware AW2720HF. The LG 38GL950G-B is better than the Samsung Odyssey G9 overall;however, they're very different monitors. You can see the flicker chart with the Local Dimming on 'High' here. The Samsung Odyssey G7 LC32G75T is a much better gaming monitor than the LG 27GL850-B. We'll retest it once a firmware update is available. The Samsung CHG70 supports HDR and performs decently in that mode, and it also supports local dimming that makes blacks look deep in a dark room. The Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 has a high native contrast ratio that displays deep blacks in dark rooms. The G7 is available in both 27 and 32 inches and has a 16:9 aspect ratio. There are four buttons and a joystick to power the monitor On/Off and navigate the OSD menu. This means there is a single overdrive mode experience available on this screen across the refresh rate range, or rather you can just leave adaptive-sync turned on and use the default configuration easily. When comparing the Dell Alienware AW2521HF with its bigger sibling, the Dell Alienware AW2720HF, these two monitors are nearly identical except for screen size and a different color on the back of the monitor. Note that the RGB balance is off in lighter grey shades resulting in a cooler image including at white which we measured at 7067K. The results are carefully selected to provide the most useful and relevant information that can help evaluate the display while filtering out the wide range of information and figures that will be unnecessary. That means the impact could spread far beyond the agencys payday lending rule. ICC Profile Download. You will not have an easy task adjusting it to a comfortable position. The 240Hz support at 4K is really impressive, and provides excellent motion clarity in gaming if you can push to that level and have a powerful enough system. The extra pixel density of the 4K resolution will provide a very sharp and clear image for all uses including office and general applications. The screen is made out of decent-quality plastic, and the stand is metal but covered with a plastic shell. It also supports HDR, which the HP doesn't, and has a VA panel with a higher contrast ratio. Again, the best overdrive setting is 'Standard' because the 'Faster' and 'Fastest' options have too much overshoot. The BenQ has a higher resolution, better contrast ratio, and significantly better black uniformity. This results in a lower but arguably more accurate measurement. It doesn't get bright enough to fight glare in well-lit rooms. ICC Profile Download. The Samsung has a higher 1440p resolution, it has a much better contrast ratio, supports HDR, and has a much quicker response time at 60Hz. The Acer also has much better ergonomics, with a full range of motion on the stand, so you can easily adjust it to an ideal viewing position. The Alienware AW2720HF has great horizontal viewing angles. With our Radeon graphics card, we can only achieve a maximum of 120Hz. It has the same flat round stand that supports the monitor well and prevents serious wobbling. Even if Samsung advertises Quantum HDR 2000, this isn't a real VESA certification, and it doesn't hit 2000 nits. Samsung have pushed up to 4K here while still keeping the same screen size and the same very high refresh rate. There is a useful Auto Source Switch+ option in the OSD menu for the screen where the monitor detects when connected devices are turned on and instantly switches to the new source signal. It's only available in this size and replaces the Samsung Odyssey G7 LC32G75T. Its 49 inch screen allows you to have multiple windows opened side-by-side, and its high pixel density results in sharp images and text. It also causes a decrease in screen brightness and some image duplication. Update 10/08/2021: Acer released a firmware update for this monitor, version 4B0E, that adds a new Max Brightness setting. However, the CRG9 has significantly less overshoot when running at its maximum refresh rate even though its response time is slightly slower, and it gets much brighter in SDR. We reached 1.4 dE average which is good, but some colours still showed some higher errors up to 4.0 for some reason and we couldnt seem to correct this. There are low levels of blooming and halos in most situations, with some OSD options that allow you to tweak things to your liking as well. The LG 27UK650 has better resolution and much better vertical and horizontal viewing angle which make better for office use. It delivers an excellent gaming experience because it has a low input lag, a high refresh rate, and exceptional response times. The overdrive level can be adjusted on most monitors and we recommend the 'Fast' setting, which gives you the best performance. Although its not really detailed by Samsung it seems that Auto is very similar to high, although its not clear if the auto mode is supposed to be doing something different. This monitor is the newer version of the Samsung CF791 and does not have the compatibility issues we encountered with our GTX1060 graphics card and the CF791 monitor. The Samsung Odyssey G3 S24AG30 has good gradient handling, but it's limited because the highest signal it supports is 8-bit. In regular content, the contrast is expected to drop with local dimming enabled. This video is a good example to see the scanlines and flicker issues in the green section with the Local Dimming set to 'High', VRR enabled, VRR Control off, and the Brightness at 100. You can see that there is some small overshoot in the faster mode on the middle image without any real improvement to motion clarity to show for it compared with the standard setting, and this overshoot gets more pronounced when you move up to the extreme mode, also then starting to impact the top image. The Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 has an excellent response time at its max refresh of 165Hz. Viewing angles and reflection handling are better on the Dell, but the ASUS has much better contrast ratio and black uniformity due to its VA panel. The Acer has better ergonomics, an optional black frame insertion feature, better text clarity, and better connectivity, with a built-in USB hub. The only real changes in this mode are in the colour section. This is without local dimming enabled keep in mind, and the screen can reach higher peak brightness levels for HDR content as we will look at later. The LG 27UK650 has better resolution and much better vertical and horizontal viewing angle which make better for office use. General and Office. However, this does not work very well in a bright room where reflections can become distracting. We measured the HDR peak brightness with HDR enabled, Color Space set to 'HDR-400', and Brightness set to max. We will talk about the 3 available local dimming modes in a moment, but its possible to create a very pleasing HDR experience on the Neo G8, with low levels of blooming, deep blacks and bright highlights. The Acer Nitro XV272U KVbmiiprzx and the ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQL1A are 1440p gaming monitors with a 170Hz refresh rate. It also has a 240Hz refresh rate, the response time is a bit quicker, and it's available in both a 27 and 32 inch size. The two monitors have very similar picture quality. The Gigabyte M27Q is much better for gaming than the Samsung Odyssey G3 S24AG30, but they're different types of monitors. The monitor is thick, especially when placed on its stand. The reflection handling is good. The Samsung Odyssey G3 S24AG30 has decent text clarity. There is a very good brightness adjustment range provided by the screen, allowing you to control the brightness from ~330 nits all the way down to ~14 nits. The Samsung has a higher 1440p resolution, it has a much better contrast ratio, supports HDR, and has a much quicker response time at 60Hz. The photo of the pixels looks blurry due to the screen's anti-reflective coating. The Samsung uses a VA panel that can produce deep blacks thanks to its high contrast ratio. This means that the Samsung has a wider format and is better suited for dark rooms, but its viewing angles are worse. Setting Local Dimming to 'Auto' makes it perform similarly to 'High' in HDR in terms of brightness, but it's a separate setting that performs differently overall. The LG 49WL95C-W and the Samsung Odyssey G9 are very different despite having the same size, resolution, and aspect ratio. Its large screen provides plenty of space to work comfortably, and it has a high pixel density to render text clearly. Odyssey Neo G9. There's only a little bit of banding in the greens and grays, but it shouldn't be noticeable in regular content. We recommend using the 'Fast' Response Time setting because it has the quickest response time. This helps reduce blooming and halos in practice, aided by the VA panel with its strong static contrast ratio. There is an sRGB preset mode available as well which includes an emulation of the sRGB colour space. The overall performance of the monitor in image retention is good. The Odyssey G7 has much better ergonomics, better build quality, higher peak brightness, and supports HDR. This is achieved thanks to DSC (Display Stream Compression) over DisplayPort so make sure you have a modern graphics card that supports this. There's no local dimming feature. It also has significantly better ergonomics because it allows for swivel adjustment and rotation to portrait mode. put them under the same test bench, In the image, they look more white due to the camera flash. Before we get in to the calibration we also measured each of the gamma modes in the menu to see if any of them improved the default mode 1 at all. There's very little wobble when nudged. In practice you get sharp and clear motion clarity, especially at something as high as 240Hz. After calibration, the Samsung Odyssey G9 has exceptional color accuracy. They don't require a ton of force to press, but just enough that the screen wobbles, and it takes time to get used to. The S32BG75 also has Mini LED backlighting with a much better local dimming feature than the LC32G75T. The LG 34GN850-B is marginally better than the Samsung Odyssey G9. The LG has a much quicker response time, which results in a clearer image with less blur trail behind fast-moving objects. The screen looks very dark out of the box and is set for some reason at a brightness level of 13. It's called VRB in the OSD menu. Odyssey Neo G9. 2020 coverage is much more limited. They each have a VA panel with a 144Hz refresh rate, but the G5 has a higher 1440p resolution. Anyway, back to the Samsung Quantum Odyssey Neo 2000 G8 Quantum. The Samsung Odyssey G3 S24AG30 has decent build quality. The performance here is way beyond the older Odyssey G7 models in all regards, with better blacks, better bright areas and much better local dimming capability. Most colors and white balance are inaccurate, and the color temperature is on the cooler side, resulting in a blueish tint. Its full product name is the less catchy LS32BG850NUXXU, or perhaps shortened to 32BG850 we prefer to call it the Odyssey Neo G8. This 4K resolution is a bit too high to use at native scaling (100%) on a screen even of this pretty large 32 size although some people may find it ok. The Samsung has a higher refresh rate of 240Hz, significantly higher HDR peak brightness, and faster response time, although with more overshoot. It supports FreeSync and is compatible with G-SYNC. It's just a little lower than the advertised 2500:1; however, it can vary between individual units. It has a higher 5120x1440 resolution and 240Hz refresh rate. It looks good when there are a few light sources around, but reflections from strong light sources can get distracting. Tracking of moving images across the screen is perhaps a little clearer and sharper, and at 240Hz there were very low levels of ghosting and strobe cross-talk across the whole screen which was great news at least. Its input lag is incredibly low, and it has both native FreeSync support and G-SYNC compatibility to reduce screen tearing. In the 5% gray image the uniformity is better and no DSE is noticeable. The Dell has better ergonomics and it has slightly better reflection handling. We captured some pursuit camera photos which demonstrate real-world perceived motion clarity at 240Hz in each of the response time modes. Really impressive for a VA panel. The Samsung Odyssey G3 S24AG30 has native FreeSync premium support, and we confirmed that G-SYNC also works over a DisplayPort connection only. As far as we know the screen will support HDMI-VRR as well as FreeSync over HDMI, although unfortunately we do not have a PS5 to be able to check. U32J590/UJ59. It has a flat screen with thin borders on three sides and a thicker bottom bezel. The Acer performs better gaming-wise because it has a higher refresh rate of 170Hz and better response times. Black uniformity is terrible. It's slightly above the advertised 1000:1 contrast; however, this can vary between units. These results are in the 'Custom' Picture Mode with the Brightness at its max and Local Dimming set to 'High'. It has a borderless design on three of its bezels, with a thicker bottom bezel. The Samsung Odyssey G7 LC32G75T is much better than the Samsung C27RG5. One of the key features of this screen is its high 3840 x 2160 Ultra HD (4K) resolution which is an upgrade over the previous Odyssey G7 model which offered the same 240Hz refresh rate, but with a 2560 x 1440 resolution. The Samsung Odyssey G3 S24AG30 is a basic 1080p gaming monitor available in a 24 or 27 inch size; it's an updated version of the Samsung Odyssey G3 LF27G35T with a different design but many of the same features. Good HDR color volume. This causes the image to look quite dull and washed out, but of course you can easily change this brightness control to your liking. Gamma follows the sRGB curve reasonably well, but most scenes are darker than they should be. It has a slow response time resulting in black smearing and a lot of motion blur behind fast-moving objects. It supports Low Framerate Compensation for the VRR to continue working at low frame rates, but there are some issues with it. The G9 has a higher resolution, a higher refresh rate, and gets a lot brighter in SDR and HDR. The Acer's stand allows for more ergonomic adjustments than the LG's, so it might be easier to find an ideal viewing position. It means it has better dark room performance for deeper blacks, but the Gigabyte still gets brighter in SDR if you want to use it in a well-lit room. It's extremely consistent across different content. The Dell delivers better picture quality because it uses a QD-OLED panel with deeper blacks, so if you want something for dark room gaming, you can't go wrong with it. The Acer is also better for bright room gaming because it gets brighter and has better reflection handling. The Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 has a flicker-free backlight with the brightness at higher levels, which helps reduce eye strain. Poor black uniformity for the Samsung CJ791. The switch between 120Hz mode and 240Hz mode is available as a setting in the OSD menu. The vertical viewing angles are sub-par. The Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 S32BG75 and the LG 27GP950-B are both excellent 4k gaming monitors, each with HDMI 2.1 bandwidth. You get pretty noticeable gamma shifts as you move horizontally, and especially vertically which wash out the image, and really you will want to be facing the screen head on to get the best experience. We would prefer it if you could simply enable MBR and it take care of turning relevant unsupported things off for you, then turn those same things back on when you disable MBR. The Samsung Odyssey G9 is a different monitor than the Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 S32BG75. The stand of the Samsung C34J791 is round and flat. LG. The Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 has an incredible SDR color gamut. A setting ~34 should return you a luminance close to 120 nits. The ASUS ROG PG348Q has an IPS panel whereas the Samsung has aVA one. For a mode thats supposed to be factory calibrated we would expect more attention to detail and accuracy from Samsung. This is an improvement compared to the CF791. Within the OSD menu there is a setting for local dimming with options for auto, low, high and off. C49RG9/CRG9. Enabling Windows ClearType (top photo) makes letters bolder. We first want to measure the accuracy of the default out-of-the-box setup relative to typical sRGB content, while also examining the screens suitability and accuracy for common wider colour gamut spaces such as Adobe RGB which is used in the professional and photography markets quite often. As a result of running in this wide colour space the accuracy of sRGB colours is poor with a dE average of 4.1, maximum of 6.4. It has an IPS panel that provides great viewing angles so you can share your work easily, but the monitor's lack of adjustability is disappointing for those who need to work in portrait mode. The Samsung Odyssey G5/G55A S27AG55 is a mid-level 1440p gaming monitor. There's blooming that's more noticeable if you're viewing the screen from the sides, but it isn't as bad from the front.
